(Editor’s Note: Melanie Rajpal, a resident of South Plainfield and student at Rowan University, is a summer 2018 intern for TAPinto South Plainfield. Her first assignment was to write a profile piece introducing herself to the community.) 


SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Melanie Rajpal is a lifelong resident of the borough and member of South Plainfield High School’s Class of 2015. She will be a senior at Rowan University in the fall and is working towards a dual major in writing arts and sociology with concentrations in creative writing and new media and publishing. 

Rajpal has always been an avid reader and writer and hopes to one day pursue a career in journalism or new media. While at Rowan, she has contributed to theodysseyonline.com, an online publication, where she created and published her own written content. In addition, Rajpal is a staff editor of her school’s undergraduate literary magazine, Avant,and has aided in the process of reviewing and accepting pieces for publication.

At college, Rajpal works for Rowan After Hours, a late night program that holds events for students every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. She serves as the program’s ‘do it yourself’ (DIY) coordinator, a position through which she plans and executes weekly crafts projects for students who attend these events.

Rajpal resides in South Plainfield with her parents and sister, Rhea. When not reading or writing, Rajpal attempts to teach herself how to sew, knit and crochet with some days being more successful than others. She is looking forward to spending this summer creating new memories with her friends and family as well as and visiting Spring Lake Park and the South Plainfield Public Library.

Rajpal describes herself as a very patience, tolerant, and creative person. She frequently looks for new ways to help others and giveback to her community.Additionally, Rajpal is always willing to learn new skills and tackle challenging tasks. 

Through this internship with TAPinto South Plainfield, Rajpal is looking forward to gaining valuable journalism experience while also learning more about her hometown.
