SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ  - Metropolitan Dermatology had their long-awaited Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at their newest location - 114 Lake Avenue in South Plainfield.  Mayor Matthew Anesh, Council President Derryck White, and Council Members Christine Faustini, Robert Bengivenga Jr., and Joseph Wolak welcomed the medical group to the neighborhood along with residents and new patients who attended the event.

“Metropolitan Dermatology is a great addition to the borough,”  said Anesh.  “Dr. Alex Doctoroff has invested in a beautiful new facility on Lakeview Avenue that is state of the art.  Congratulations to the entire staff on officially opening their South Plainfield location.”

A Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Alex Doctoroff specializes in cosmetic dermatology, surgical dermatology, Mohs micrographic surgery and anti-aging skin treatments.

“I am very excited to bring world-class dermatology services to South Plainfield,” said Doctoroff.  “From allergy testing for long-standing rashes, to surgical treatment of skin cancers, to non-invasive treatments of pre-cancerous spots, to cosmetic treatments for lines and wrinkles - the residents of South Plainfield and surrounding areas will have access to all the cutting edge treatments.”

Doctoroff is a past President of the New Jersey Dermatological Society.  In addition to treating patients, he currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he teaches dermatology residents.

Ann Waters, resident of Fords, is a patient of Doctoroff and has been visiting the Metropolitan Dermatologist Clark office for over two years.

“I came today to support the new opening,” said Waters.  “I love Dr. Doctoroff.  I was always afraid of needles and doctors, but he is very comforting.  He’s very quirky.  He has a really great attitude and doesn’t make you nervous at all.”

Doctoroff opened Metropolitan Dermatology in 2004 and it has since grown to include locations in Clark, Elizabeth, Jersey City, Kearny, Staten Island, West New York and now South Plainfield.  Ten Board Certified Physicians and seven Physician Assistants see patients in these locations.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Metropolitan Dermatology to South Plainfield,” said Councilwoman Christine Faustini.  “I have visited Dr. Doctoroff’s Clark office with my daughter, Ava. The office staff was knowledgeable, professional and took the time to answer all our questions and address any concerns.  It will be convenient to visit them right here in South Plainfield in their new state of the art facility.”

The South Plainfield team of Metropolitan Dermatology will include Doctoroff as Medical Director and Physician Assistants Viraj Patel, PA-C, and Inga Buffano, PA-C, along with their support staff.

“Our office is staffed and run by professionals who truly care about each patient's health and wellness,” said Doctoroff.  “Every member of our South Plainfield team is experienced in the full range of medical, surgical and cosmetic needs.”

“South Plainfield is an amazing community,” said Patel.  “I actually grew up only ten minutes from this area.  The people are wonderful.  Everyone is so kind.  Having the chance to work in this community it’s great.  It feels like I’m back home.”

“We are pleased to welcome Metropolitan Dermatology, Dr. Doctoroff and his staff to South Plainfield,”  said Town Council member Robert Bengivenga.  “Our residents will be impressed by their knowledge, professionalism, and the multitude of services they offer.”

Metropolitan Dermatology now stands on property once owned by Louis DeFillipo, a South Plainfield firefighter who built a home for his family on the location in 1952.  His daughter, Nancy Guarraci, attended the Grand Opening.

“Our family lived here our whole lives,” said Guarraci.  “My dad was a fireman so he used to just bolt out of the house and run to the fire department if there was a fire.  I grew up here.  This is my home.  My whole life was in South Plainfield.”

The only remnant of the DeFillipo home is a white rock that rests near the sidewalk with the number 114 painted on the front.

“When we sold the property, my sister wanted to take the white rock that is out front because it was part of the house, but it was just way to big to get,”  added Guarraci.  “But I see Dr. Doctoroff left it there, so I feel like a part of my dad is always going to be a part of South Plainfield because South Plainfield was his home town.”

Looking to expand their offices three years ago, Doctoroff and Operations Manager of Metropolitan Dermatology Kristine Walters researched the area.

“Metropolitan Dermatology saw South Plainfield as a logical location to meet the needs of underserved patients seeking quality dermatological treatment in the area,” said White.  “Dr. Doctoroff’s desire to bridge the gap between need and services afforded us the opportunity to have a former home not in use, be replaced with a well designed, esthetically appealing state of the arts of dermatology office.”

South Plainfield’s Traffic Safety Board and Zoning Board along with Metropolitan Dermatology worked together to collaborate on the project.  After two years of construction, the office is now officially open.

“The combined effort minimized the impact on the surrounding area and yielded an eye catching structure which enhances the character of our community,” added White.  “We look forward to a long standing relationship with Dr. Doctoroff and his staff.”

While the South Plainfield offices get up and running, office hours are: Mondays 7:00AM-1:00PM, Tuesdays 1:00PM-7:00PM, Alternating Thursdays 8:00A M-12:30PM, and Fridays 7:00AM-3:00PM.

"Best of luck to Metropolitan Dermatology,” said Wolak.  “Welcome Dr. Doctoroff and his staff to South Plainfield with a new, modern, clean office.”

“What is most important to me is that we offer the best care possible,” added Doctoroff as he led Anesh and Council members on a tour of the office.  “I want to bring South Plainfield the care and treatments that a patient would receive in a large city like New York City.”

“This is a great welcome to the neighborhood,”  added Waters.  “I’m sure he’s going to be a great asset to the town.  He’s a great doctor.  Stop in and come see him even if you have a current dermatologist.  Trust me, you will like him.”

“We are proud to use our experience and expertise to benefit South Plainfield patients,” concluded Doctoroff.  “We look forward to helping them look and feel their best.”
