On Friday, May 12, members of the South Plainfield Middle School Music Department participated in the 2017 Music Showcase Festival.  The students performed exceptionally well and brought home 11 awards.  At this festival, the musical ensembles played for adjudication at the First Presbyterian Church and Bethlehem Catholic High School in Bethlehem, PA and then spent the rest of the day at Dorney Park.  It was a slightly chilly day, but the students still had an awesome experience!

The ensembles were given a rating and placement within each category.  All ensembles earned a rating of Superior, which is the highest rating that can be achieved.  The 8th Grade Orchestra received a 5th place award and received a special award for the viola section.  The GEMS achieved 2nd place in the womens’ chorus division and achieved an award for the alto section.  Also, Allison Citalon won a soloist award.  The 8th Grade Chorus achieved 1st place in the mixed chorus division and won awards for the soprano section.  Sarah Housel also won an award for her solo in “Stand Together.”  The 8th Grade Band also won 1st place in the concert band division.  They took home two awards in excellence, one for the percussion section and one for the trumpet section.

Also attending the trip were 20 parent chaperones as well as Mr. Dore, the High School Band Director, and Mrs. Veiss.  Mr. Veiss, Mrs. Livecchi, and Miss Maddolin and the administration of the Middle School are very proud of the students’ accomplishments and expect them to continue to do well in the future.
