Never a Dull Moment at the South Plainfield Senior Center

            As we move into colder weather, indoor activities for recreation and education are being planned at the South Plainfield Senior Center, 90 Maple Avenue, South Plainfield.

            The Side Pockets, the Center's fabulous billiards team, initiates their season on Thursday, November 2. at 10:00 am. Their first match of the season is a home game, but the Side Pockets will be away for the rest of the month.

            On November 14 a new and heart warming activity is being implemented. From 10:00-12:00 members of the Center will be creating Christmas cards to send to United States veterans who reside in the Veterans Home. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served while the seniors use their skills to make cards that will put a smile on the veterans' faces.

            The Monthly Brunch will be held on Wednesday, November 15. A suggested donation of $5 is appreciated, and reservations are suggested for this popular event. On Tuesday, November 28th the Birthday Brunch, celebrating those who were born in the month of Thanksgiving. Brunch and birthday cake begin at 11:30 am.

            For those who like to “Move it, move it,” the Center offers a myriad of weekly exercise programs. Yoga classes are held on Wednesdays at 10:00 am as well as on Mondays at 10:30 am. For those who enjoy dancing, Zumba sessions are held on Thursdays at 10:15 am, and Mondays at 9:00 am.

Excellent exercise instructor, Greg, conducts classes each Wednesday at 8:30 am and Thursdays at 1:15. For something a little different, Tai Chi is offered on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm.

            There are a variety of educational classes given at the Center as well. On Mondays two sessions of “Healthy Bones” are instructed; 12:15 is for the Beginners, and 1:45 is for the Advanced students. On Thursdays, Computer classes are conducted at 10:00, 11:15, and 1:30 so those who are looking for assistance in becoming more proficient on the computer can join those sessions.

            For relaxation there are a myriad of programs offered, including Adult Coloring on Tuesday, November 28, and Knitting and Crocheting on Wednesdays at 1:00. The participants who go to the Knitting and Crocheting classes create beautiful blankets and hats, which are donated to hospitals for children and those in need of lap-warmers. At 11:30 am on Thursday, November 30, the stimulating monthly Book Club will meet.

            Several off campus trips are planned in November, including the VIP Casino Trip to Foxwoods on November 8, and the Hotel Bethlehem Brunch on November 19.

            Finally, the ever popular Bingo games will take place on November 3, 17, and 21st from 10-2:00 pm.
