Jennifer is a student in the Rutgers University School of Pharmacy program. She is 23 years old and is a level P4 in school hoping to graduate in 2016. Jennifer has been with us at Twin City for about two months now and we sat down with her to find out what she thinks of her experiences.
Q: Why did you want to become a pharmacist?
A: Medications are a big part of health care and something that has always interested me. Becoming a pharmacist would allow me to work with my interests and help patients improve their health at the same time.
Q: What have you learned from being at Twin City?
A: There are many employees who specialize in a specific area but unlike chain pharmacies, there is a lot of communication and assistance to other functional areas as well. I am learning about the Team Dynamics and about the non-pharmacy areas as well to better understand the workflow of a privately owned business.
Q: What is your favorite part of Pharmacy life?
A: Definitely learning about the new drugs that come on the market. I follow fiercepharma, the pink sheet, and other pharmacy news outlets. I also find it exciting that we are currently in a period of health care reform and I like to read about the new changes that are coming.
Q: What are your future plans with your degree?
A: I am interested in community pharmacy where I can help individual patients understand and take their medications correctly. I would also like to work for a pharmaceutical company and support the scientific innovations that bring to patients new treatments and cures for their conditions. Ideally, I would like to work at a pharmaceutical company full-time and in a community pharmacy, like Twin City, per diem.
Q: What is a fun fact about you?
A: I like to read novels in my spare time and I have been reading more Chinese than English lately.
We love having Jennifer work with us. She is a talented young lady and we cannot wait to see what she does in the future. Check back with us next week for our next installment of Next Generation Pharmacists at Twin City Pharmacy and Surgical!
