NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — An attempted robbery turned deadly early this morning on Hamilton Street.
Two or three men approached an individual, whose identity has yet to be released, around 2:30 a.m. between Woodbridge and Bridge streets. They “demanded personal property,” according to a crime alert, which caused a “physical altercation” to break out.
The robbers assaulted the victim with a “sharp object.”
Emergency responders arrived on scene and treated the victim. But he later died from his injuries, according to police.
Descriptions of the suspects were not included in the news blast. A phone call to the New Brunswick Police Department’s spokesperson was not immediately returned.
The slaying occurred little more than an hour after a shooting at the intersection of Church and Spring streets.
Around 1:20 a.m., two people sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
None of the victims in either incident appear to be affiliated with Rutgers University, according to police.
