SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The lazy, hazy days of summer may feel a long way off – around 100 but who's counting – but in the Borough of South Plainfield, plans are already under way for the opening of the community pool.

At the borough’s Jan. 8 meeting, the council voted 5-0 in favor of over a dozen resolutions, including setting pool fees for the 2018 season. According to Councilwoman Christine Faustini, chair of the borough’s recreation committee, there will be no increase in fees this year, with rates locked at the same rate as 2017.

“Keeping our prices level reinforces our long-term vision of maintaining affordable recreational facilities for our residents,” said Faustini. “The South Plainfield Community Pool has been a summer destination enjoyed by families for many decades and it will continue to be a regular swim spot for people of all ages.“

Registration began Feb. 1, and, as in previous years, resident and non-resident individual, family, and senior citizen season plans, each coming with 10 day-passes, will be available and there is a discount on all plans purchased by April 30. Additionally, resident and non-resident daily passes can also be purchased.

During the summer of 2017, several aspects of the pool grounds were revitalized. Two permanent 14’ by 22’ shade structures were installed – one near the adult pool and another in the kiddie pool area; a privacy screen was installed along Cady Lane; overgrown greenery and poison ivy along the Maple Avenue side of the pool was removed and new trees planted; and a new 7-foot vinyl fence with privacy slats was put up on Maple.

“This summer, we are going to look to enhance programming based on member input and suggestions,” said Faustini. “We will also continue to explore additional opportunities for upgrades to the facility.”
