SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The North Brunswick Raiders boys soccer team defeated South Plainfield, 2-0, on Tuesday with two goals from Sam Mikhailov.

During the first 10 minutes, the Tigers started off strong and led the time of possession and getting off several shots. The rest of the half, and game, however, was controlled by the Raiders.

The Raiders never relinquished that control as they cruised to victory.

Throughout the first half, Tiger goalie Nick Plate made a few saves on rushes from the Raiders including one save that caromed off the crossbar. Plate’s play kept the Tigers in the game. The Raiders constant attack in the second half ended up being too much for Plate and the Tiger’s to handle.

“Plate played okay in the first half but made a few mistakes in the second half that led to the goals,” head coach Anthony Perfilio said. “Unfortunately that is the life of a goalie. [Plate] is very good, but he needs to be perfect all the time to keep us going. I believe he will start playing to his potential soon.”

The Tigers are in a small slump as they have dropped their second game in a row. Perfilio attributes this mini-slump to injuries that have riddled the team.

“We have some injuries to three starters which really hurts,” Perfilio said. “We just have to stop making mistakes and play simple. Once these players come back I think we will be alright. Our players have to believe in themselves and our new players need to step up.

“Hopefully we will get on the same page. We have had two straight games without goals. Hopefully when our injured players come back the goals will come”

The Tigers will look to end their losing streak when they travel to Edison on Thursday.
