SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – From now through Monday, Oct. 31, Park Avenue Dental of South Plainfield will host a ‘Treats for the Troops’ candy collection drive to support Operation Gratitude’s 2016 Halloween Candy Give-Back Program.

“Operation Gratitude is an amazing organization that sends candy to military troops, first responders, recruits, veterans, and their families and caregivers,” said Park Avenue Dental owner Dr. Minni Sharma, DMD. “We want to participate in this amazing program because we want to show our support. We are very dedicated to giving back to our community and country."

Established in 2003, Operation Gratitude is a California-based non-profit dedicated to lifting the spirits and meet the evolving needs of the military and first responder communities and providing volunteer opportunities for civilians anywhere in America to express their appreciation to all who serve.

Through its ‘Treats for the Troops’ campaign, residents can drop off any unopened bags or individually wrapped pieces of candy to the Oak Tree Avenue dental office during regular business hours throughout the entire month of October; Park Avenue Dental will collect, box, and ship all donated candy to Operation Gratitude before Nov. 15.

Operation Gratitude annually sends 200,000-plus care packages filled with food, entertainment, hygiene, and handmade items, plus personal letters of appreciation to veterans, first responders, new recruits and wounded heroes along with their caregivers. Items are also sent throughout the year to individually named U.S. service members deployed overseas and their families waiting at home. Over the past 13 years, Operation Gratitude’s volunteers have shipped more than 1,600,000 care packages.

"Throughout the year we run many collections as well as event that help the community and many others.  We hope our clients, patients and residents in South Plainfield will help us at Park Avenue Dental show the men and women of the military how much we care," said Dr. Sharma.

Clients and residents of South Plainfield and the surrounding area along with businesses and community organizations looking to take part in ‘Treats for the Troops’ can drop off candy to Park Avenue during regular office hours: Mondays from 2 to 7 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The office is closed on Wednesdays.

“If you have any extra candy lying around your house or you bought any extra candy for Halloween, or if you would just like to purchase some candy to help us donate, we would greatly appreciate the help," added Dr. Sharma. "The entire office and community involvement would really help make this candy collection super successful!"
