CLARK, NJ – Right hand hurler Julia Parker came in with the bases loaded and two outs to put out the fire, and threw two more scoreless innings to lead the South Plainfield 10U Tigers past Colonia in the Clark 10U Father’s Day Softball Classic.
In relief, Parker struck out every batter she faced, and the Tigers erased a 2-1 deficit to go on to beat Colonia 3-2. Parker doubled for the second time in the game in the fourth inning and was driven home by a two-out single by Kristin Smith to knot the game at two. The Tigers rallied in the bottom of the fifth when Olivia Olano drew a walk, Alex White singled and Kirsten Culver laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases.
Deleany (Peanut) Born then came to the plate with the bases loaded. Born singled between first and second to drive in Olano with the game-winning run. When asked how she felt about getting up with the bases loaded and the game tied at two, Born said “I was thinking about hitting a home run, but I was happy to get a hit."
Today’s win brought the Tigers record to 3-0 with one seeding game left tomorrow. Once all seeding games are played the Tigers move on to the playoff round.
