PISCATAWAY, NJ – A freight train crashed into a silver SUV early Monday, bringing traffic to a halt along New Market Road in Piscataway and the surrounding area for most of the morning as rescue personnel and investigators worked to clear the scene.

The train and wrecked vehicle came to a stop just past the Washington Ave. bridge, alongside an industrial area near Columbus Park and 11th Ave.

Township police sent out an alert that “the railroad crossings at Prospect Ave. near Union Street and William Street, and New Market Road near Sherwood Drive (were) both blocked by a stopped train.”
