SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Through Community Pass, borough residents seeking to register and pay for various programs and special events offered by the South Plainfield Department of Recreation can now do so online.
While in person registration is still an option, Community Pass, which is accessible through any computer or mobile device, enables residents to sign up, pay for, and keep track of registrations for themselves and family members.
“We are still here in the office to provide customer service but we also want to provide residents with convenience,” said Elizabeth Yarus, director of the South Plainfield Department of Recreation. “The goal is to make everything as easy as possible [and] through this online registration system, residents will be able to complete their own registrations from home or work at their convenience.”
Those new to Community Pass will need to create an account while those who already utilize the system for other services - such as the school district’s before and after care program – will only need to add a new community to their existing account. To join, visit https://bit.ly/2JpGLO2; to add the recreation department to an account, log in using the same user name and password and select ‘Switch to a Different Community’ to add the ‘Borough of South Plainfield.’
In most cases, the new system will recognize residents who, in the past, have registered for rec department programs; new residents as well as those who have never signed up for a recreation department program or those trying to add a child for the first time, however, must still register in person.
“To take part in our programs, you have to show proof of residency and, for children, proof of age with a birth certificate is required,” said Yarus, adding, “This is only for the initial process and to get set up in the system. After that, everything moving forward can be done online.”
Any resident who has trouble registering or receives a ‘not eligible’ message when trying to register themselves and/or a family member should contact the department. “We understand, there may be some growing pains and there may be situations in which information did not carry during the system switchover,” said Yarus. “A quick phone call to the recreation department can usually rectify the problem and we can verify the account.”
Through Community Pass, South Plainfield Department of Recreation program registrations can be paid for using an echeck or credit card (a 3-percent fee is charged for credit card transactions) only; one cannot register online and pay at the rec office. Online registration is currently open for aerobics, youth basketball, and youth wrestling with tickets for the Nov. 16 Cappy Awards Dinner also available for purchase through the site. In person registration is still available and required for gym/weight room memberships, along with pool memberships when they become available.
