SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Mr. Robert Richkus has renewed his family’s Adopt-A-Spot agreement with the South Plainfield Clean Business Association for the coming year. They will continue to do monthly litter cleanups in Shadyside Park.
The Richkus Family first joined the CBA’s Adopt-A-Spot program in 2012. In applying to renew the contract, Mr. Richkus told the CBA that their monthly cleanup has become not only a family event but a neighborhood project, as other park visitors have joined in the effort to keep the park clean. The work used to be a challenge, but now it goes quickly. Park visitors are using the litter cans on site and there is not as much trash to pick up.
The family initially thought of adopting the park because as residents on Famularo Drive they used the park frequently and wanted it to be a clean, pleasant place to visit. Although they have recently relocated to another part of town, they intend to continue to maintain the park litter-free. Mr. Richkus notes that their monthly cleanup day will be a fun family excursion.
The CBA is looking for more adopters for parks and open spaces. Walnut Street Park and Putnam Park are available for adoption. For more information about the Adopt-A-Spot program, contact the Clean Communities Coordinator at (908) 226-7621 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
