Clinton, NJ - The New Jersey State Police have shut I-78 in both directions due to an active police investigation. Heavy police activity was reported in the area including helicopters and K9 Units. Residents in the Hunterdon County area have been asked to keep doors shut and to not pick up hitchhikers. The New Jersey State Police say reports of a prison break are false, but no specific details of the nature of the investigation have been released. The closure of I-78 has caused a traffic nightmare on Route 78. Drivers all along the route 78 corridor are reporting heavy traffic particularly on Route 22 in areas of Clinton and Lebanon.
