SOUTH PLAINFIELD  - Three South Plainfield High School Juniors dedicate their time and talents to the South Plainfield Senior Center.  Taylor Santamaria, Catherine Delair, and Katalina Bedoya have used their creative skills to beautify the Center’s bulletin boards with the joy of the Spring Season.  They are devoted to volunteering at the Senior Center regularly, helping in any way they are needed.

“I am honored to be the Director of the Senior Center and I’m honored to know these amazing young ladies,” said Tree Olano.  “Like I’ve always said, good families equal good kids.  We get a lot of that here in South Plainfield!”

The three SPHS Juniors are honor students and athletes.  Finding time to volunteer is something they find fulfilling.

“I enjoy helping the community and the Senior Center is great place to do that because there are many different activities for us to take part in and I get to do them with my friends,”  said Santamaria.  “I look forward to helping out there more in the future.”

The students originally reached out to the Director of the Senior Center looking for ways they could volunteer.

“They are all creative so I thought ‘Bulletin Boards!’” added Olano.  “They are all so busy, with honors classes, sports, dance, and college preparation.  It truly amazes me that they take the time to give back to the community.”

“I really like volunteering for the Senior Center because I get to give back to my own community here in South Plainfield, which makes it even more meaningful,” said Delair.

So far, the three students have created three decorative bulletin boards filled with information about upcoming events and programs.  They will also be serving lunches Easter week and plan on making themselves a useful part of the Senior Center.

“It’s a great feeling because seeing my work up there and knowing that my friends and I did it together is a nice feeling,” said Bedoya.  “Everyone is so nice at the Senior Center.  I feel welcome and my ideas are appreciated.  You could tell that they really liked the bulletin boards.  I’m looking forward to doing more there.”
