SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The severe thunderstorm that plowed through the area shortly before 4:30 p.m. has knocked out power to sections of town. The storm brought dangerous lightning and wind gusts that were reported up to 60 mph in some parts of the state, according to weather.gov.

Power has been knocked out to many of the sections of town bordering Plainfield. Residents on Grant Avenue, Field Avenue and Tompkins Avenue are all still without power. There are also reports of outages along New Market Avenue. Plainfield and Piscataway are said to also have a large number of power outages.

Throughout the county, more than 5,500 households are without power, according to PSE&G.
