SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The South Plainfield Cultural Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Middle School PTO, Summer Drama Workshop and Friends of the South Plainfield Free Public Library, will present Macbeth, performed by the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, at the South Plainfield High School on May 2nd at 7PM. Doors open at 6:30PM. This is a free event being brought to South Plainfield residents for the first time.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey is one of 25 professional theatres in the state. One of the leading Shakespeare theatres in the nation, it is New Jersey’s only professional theatre company dedicated to Shakespeare’s canon and other classic masterworks. Through its productions and education programs, the company strives to illuminate the universal and lasting relevance of the classics for contemporary audiences. –

The South Plainfield Cultural Arts Commission was formed in 1983 by the Mayor and Council as a borough commission and consists of a group of dedicated volunteers who work to bring a variety of programs and performances to the citizens of South Plainfield and the surrounding communities. The programs range from school programs about bullying, to window decorating contest, to line dancing at the Senior Center, to the annual Talent Showcase.

The Middle School PTO is a non-profit organization that exists for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes. The purpose of the PTO is to enhance and support the educational experience at the South Plainfield Middle School, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parental involvement, and to improve the environment at our school through volunteer and financial support. –

The South Plainfield Summer Drama Workshop has become a tradition in South Plainfield over the past 42 years. This non-profit youth summer theatre program is open to students entering 7th grade up to those completing their first year of college. SPSDW seeks to build confidence, teach teamwork and responsibility, and often reveals the hidden talents of its participants, all while putting on a fabulous show. –

The Friends of the South Plainfield Public Library is a non-profit organization whose members support the Library through advocacy, volunteer services, and fundraising. The Friends serve as advocates for the development, expansion and improvement of library collections, facilities and services to patrons. –
