With tough economic times comes the opportunity for those of us who have been fortunate to help those in our community struggling at this time.
The South Plainfield Social Services Department will again be organizing our annual “Holiday Project”. We find families in our community who are having problems providing enough food for their family as well as to provide gifts for the children for Christmas.
The project starts with the collection of food from the Boy Scout food drive. This year it will be held in November 8th. If you do not get your bag picked up or would like to donate on your own, please bring your donation to The Social Services Department located at 90 Maple Ave. (Senior Citizen Building). We not only need to help these families with food for Thanksgiving but also need to provide for our year round pantry.
The next part of this program is “Adopt a Family”. You can adopt a family for Christmas with the help of the names, sizes etc. that we will supply to you. If you are unable to adopt a whole family, then, you can bring in any new gift. Please remember that all donations to this project stay in South Plainfield.
The families we help for the most part are working at low income jobs. Others are dealing with illness or other situations that prevent them for providing a nice holiday for their families.
If you are interested in helping others in our community, please call Margaret Ackerman at 908-226-7625 or 908-226-7628 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. The forms with the family information for “Adopt a Family” will be available on and after November 4th.
Thank you for your kind consideration of the least fortunate of our community.
