WOODBRIDGE, NJ - South Plainfield 8U Warriors defeated the Bridgewater 8U all-stars to win the Woodbridge Summer Slam Tournament, 3-0. Joseph Tiffert-Moroney and Chris Poggio combined for six scoreless innings for the shutout. The Warriors pitching tandem yielded just one hit over the course of the game. The Warriors received timely hitting and aggressive base running to scratch out three runs.

In addition to pitching, South Plainfield’s defense was a difference-maker in the game. In the final inning, Jackson Gaffney, Andrew Loniewski and Zachary Bolesta each made consecutive spectacular plays in the field to end the game.

The Warriors had an even more exciting victory in the semifinals to advance to the championship game.  In the semi-final game, the South Plainfield 8U Warriors trailed, 7-4, in the bottom of the sixth. The Warriors scored three runs in the sixth to send the game into extra innings.  The Warriors ended up winning in the bottom of the eighth. 

Ashton Donovan threw five strong innings in the semifinal victory. The Warriors won in the eighth inning with a line drive to center by Aldo Pigna to score Nick Campagna from third.  Pigna was 4-for-4 at the plate in the Warriors' victory.
