SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield’s Julio Mauricio and John Boyce each scored second half goals to rally the South Plainfield Tigers to a 2-1 victory over Colonia. Mauricio, a freshman, has been recently called up from junior varsity sank the Tigers’ game winning goal.

South Plainfield’s first half didn’t go according to script as the Tigers struggled with the 1-7 Patriots highlighted by the Tigers accidently scoring the wrong goal, and the Tigers being unable to slip the ball behind Colonia goalie Dan Sosiak.

“It was a bad first half,” said South Plainfield Head Coach Anthony Perfilio. “We had no life, and missed a bunch of opportunities.”

Despite the Tigers’ first half woes, South Plainfield came out of the intermission with some fire in their tanks. “We played a brilliant second half with the boys playing with a sense of urgency,” said Perfilio. “Boyce had a great game and Mauricio proved he belongs on varsity, he has played the last two games and has given us a spark.”

The victory improves South Plainfield’s record to 4-5 while Colonia falls to 1-7.
