SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Borough of South Plainfield Building Department will be hosting its Annual Spring Homeowner’s Workshop for borough residents on Thursday, March 9, 2017. The workshop will be held at the South Plainfield Senior Center Building located at 90 Maple Avenue between 6:00 and 9:00 pm.
Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive information on spring home improvement projects ranging from decks, pools, generators, interior alterations as well as additions. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity for one on one conversation with the Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire and Zoning Officials. This will allow residents to receive answers to some of the frequently asked questions:
■ Do I need a permit?
■ What is the process for receiving a permit?
■ What codes do I need to follow?
■ What are the requirements for zoning?
■ What types of products meet code?
(Sample products will be on hand for discussion)
The Division of Consumer Affairs will also be on hand to give advice on contract law, the Consumer Fraud Act, tips on how to select a contractor and knowing your legal rights. The Borough’s Environmental Officer will also be available to give advice on materials that are required to be recycled, how to properly dispose of construction debris, as well as the option of using recycling materials during construction. “So come down and meet with us, bring your plans, survey if you have them, or if you are just looking for some general information for future reference” said Construction Official, Dominic Demico, Jr. Light refreshments will be served.
