SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The South Plainfield Borough Council, at its Aug. 10 meeting, authorized the promotion of two Department of Public Works (DPW) employees and also approved the permanent, full-time hiring of two current part-time laborers.
Anthony Delpaoli, a laborer with the borough for five years, was promoted to Interim Building Maintenance Manager and Scott Smith, a lead mechanic for the DPW for four years, was promoted to Interim Supervisor Mechanic. Both Smith and Delpaoli’s promotions are effective Aug. 16. “They both do an outstanding job and are truly great guys,” said Robert Capparelli, general supervisor for the South Plainfield Department of Public Works, adding. “Their work ethic is second to none.”
Additionally, Jeffrey Pellegino and Edward Sullivan, both part-time laborers for the borough, were approved for permanent full-time laborer positions; Pellegrino’s full-time position will be effective Aug. 16 and Sullivan will assume full-time duties Aug. 30. “Both of them come from very good families and are here every day and do basically anything we ask of them,” noted Capparelli.
The South Plainfield Department of Public Works performs a variety of duties for the borough, including but not limited to, tree preservation and tree removal, signs, road repair, barricade placement for special events, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance along with maintaining all pumping stations. The department is also charged with maintaining traffic lights, municipal properties and parks, salting and snow removal, bulk pick-up, leaf pick-ups and Senior Citizen pick-ups and also operates the borough’s compactor facility and maintains leaf and brush piles.
