SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Caroline Ratti scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly to right-centerfield by Shannon Hughes in the bottom half of the eighth inning to go on to defeat Parsippany 2-1.  South Plainfield’s Katherine Vill picked up her tenth win of the season going all eight innings and striking out four Parsippany batters.  The Tigers’ Haley Hlavka was South Plainfield’s offensive leader going 3 for 4 with and RBI.

The game was scoreless in the bottom of the fifth inning when Caity Hughes scored on Haley Hlavka’s single to right-field.  Hughes led off the inning with a bunt single and had stolen second base. 

Parsippany scored in the top of the 7th with 2 outs when Megan Leitner doubled to center and Taylor Scott singled to left center to tie the game at one. Parsippany held the tigers in the seventh inning, but in the bottom of the eighth inning Caroline Ratti doubled to right-centerfield, Haley Hlavka beat out a bunt for her third hit of the game to put runners on the corner with no outs and Shannon Hughes hit a sac fly to right center to score Ratti and end the game.

The win improves South Plainfield’s record 11-3, and Parsippany falls to 4-9.
