South Plainfield Elks Motorcycle Committee to Hold Swap Meet May 20

The South Plainfield Elks #2298 Motorcycle Committee will hold a Motorcycle Swap Meet on May 20. Proceeds will aid the organization''s mission to send special needs children to Camp Moore.
The South Plainfield Elks Motorcycle Committee's Swap Meet, set for May 20, will feature vendors, motorcycles, and food

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Elks #2298 Motorcycle Committee will hold a Motorcycle Swap Meet in May at the New Market Avenue lodge. Proceeds from the event will help the lodge continue its mission to send special needs children to Camp Moore.

“We held our first Motorcycle Swap Meet last November, at the end of riding season, and although it was a huge success many people suggested it would be even better if we held it in the spring, when everyone is excited about riding season,” said Paula Janeczek, secretary of the South Plainfield Elks Motorcycle Committee.

The spring Swap Meet, planned for Saturday, May 20 (rain date May 27) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a variety of vendors. There will be motorcycles for sale as well as parts, accessories and other related items available to buy, sell, or trade. Additionally, the event will feature close to two-dozen vendors selling a variety of wares, including but not limited to, jewelry, apparel and handmade items. There will also be a food truck and a hot dog cart.

“The swap is kind of like a flea market geared toward motorcycle riders, but there will be something for everyone,” said Janeczek, noting that vendors looking to showcase their wares can rent a 20’ by 10’ space for just $20 (vendors must supply their own tables). “Our first Swap Meet had a really good turnout and most of the vendors are returning.”

Monies raised through the Motorcycle Swap Meet will benefit the fraternal organization’s mission to fund week-long stays at Elks Camp Moore. Located in the Ramapo Mountains, Elks Camp Moore offers a fun filled vacation away from home for children with special needs. The primary goal of the camp is to further develop the recreational and social skills of each child.

“One of the Elks’ biggest causes is to send children to Camp Moore and we hope to be able to present as large of a check as we can to the organization at our Miracle Run, which is held on the last Sunday in July,” said Janeczek.

“All of the children who attend Camp Moore go for free. It is supplemented by Elks fundraisers and donations and doesn't cost their parents anything,” she continued. “For many of these children, who may be in wheelchairs or homebound, it is something they look forward to the whole year. It is important that we raise the money so that they will be able to continue to go.”

A member of the South Plainfield lodge for 13 years, Janeczek comes from a family with strong ties to the organization. Her grandfather was an Exalted Ruler of the Scotch Plains lodge and, after relocating to South Plainfield, her parents, aunt and uncle and cousins all joined Lodge #2298. Additionally, up until just recently, Janeczek’s mother Celeste Ginder, served as chaplain for 15 years, and Ginder’s significant other Joseph Rauh, is the lodge’s secretary.

“We are more than just a fun social club where people hang out at the lodge,” said Janeczek. “We do so much for the community, our veterans, and special needs children. It's a good feeling to help other people.”

For more information on the Elks or to register to be a vender at the May 20 Motorcycle Swap Meet, contact Paula Janeczek at paulagene412@aim.com or call (908) 917-9907.

“It will be a fun-d day for people to come out, do some shopping and support a very worthwhile cause,” Janeczek said.

Being Able to Help Others is the Best Part of Holding Public Office

July 17, 2017

Many times friends ask me what I like most about serving in the State Senate.
