SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield field hockey team defeated Metuchen, 4-1, in a Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament semifinal match to advance to the championship game this Thursday against the winner of East Brunswick versus South Brunswick.

South Plainfield was the top seed in the tournament and Metuchen was the fourth seed.  South Plainfield’s victory avenges last week’s regular-season loss to Metuchen, which snapped a 28-game conference winning streak.

South Plainfield started the game at full throttle with Shannon Hughes scored off a pass from Jessie Bishop one minute into the game. Hughes finished with two goals and an assist, Jessie Bishop had one goal and an assist. Charlotte Macchia had the other goal for South Plainfield.  

South Plainfield goalie Courtney Ross made 15 saves in the victory as Metuchen outshot South Plainfield, 15-9. Rachel Gulotta scored the lone goal for Metuchen.
