SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - The South Plainfield Free Public Library will be having a much anticipated dedication ceremony on June 25th. The ceremony will be honoring and dedicating two sections of the Library to two women who devoted part of their lives both personally and financially to the library. The public is welcomed to this dedication.
The first dedication will be in the name of Frances Greany. Greany was a South Plainfield resident who was appointed to the South Plainfield Library Board of Trustees from 1993 to 1998. She was a teacher in the Piscataway Public Schools from 1968 until her retirement in June 2005. Ms. Greany passed away soon after her retirement and bequeathed the South Plainfield Library a sizable amount of money that helped pay for the new children’s library. The Board of Trustees has decided that the children’s library will be forever named in her honor. Ms. Greany was not only a faithful patron of the library but as a teacher of grades kindergarten through second grade she instilled a love of reading to her students.
The second dedication will be in the name of Natalie Bergen. Ms. Bergen, also a South Plainfield resident, was instrumental in reestablishing the Friends of the South Plainfield Library. Through Ms. Bergen’s hard work and dedication the Friends raised considerable amounts of money for the library to sponsor many adult and children’s programs. The Friends also helped purchase many pieces of technology and furniture. Ms. Bergen was an active participant in this organization up to the time of her passing. Ms. Bergen was also a teacher in the South Plainfield Public Schools for 15 years. She was involved in many civic activities including serving on the Board of Health, Cultural Arts Commission, Suburban Women’s Club, Rescue Squad Auxiliary and Girl Scouts of America. For her dedication to the library the multipurpose room will be forever named in her honor.
Activities for the dedication will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Mayor Anesh and members of the council, as well as family members and friends in attendance. After the dedication and the unveiling of the plaques the Preschool of Rock will provide entertainment and children can register for the summer reading program. Many thanks to The Friends of the South Plainfield Library and Suburban Women’s Club for sponsoring the dedication activities.
