SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Guard Sarah Cargill had 12 points and seven rebounds, and forward Yasmeen Mighty had another 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead the fourth-seeded South Plainfield girls' basketball team to a 50-39 victory over the 13th-seeded South River Rams in the first round of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. South River’s Gabby Harris led all scorers with 13 points.

South Plainfield led the game from start to finish and led, 17-10, in a low-scoring first half. The game opened up in the second half, with South Plainfield outscoring South River, 33-22, in the final half of the game.

The victory improves South Plainfield’s record to 15-7 on the season. South River falls to 18-3 on the season. South Plainfield’s victory advances the Tigers to the quarterfinals of the GMC Tournament, where they will play the winner of South Brunswick-Bishop Ahr on Saturday.
