SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield girls basketball team came from behind to defeat Monroe, 49-42, Thursday night in South Plainfield. The loss was Monroe’s first of the year and dropped Monroe’s record to 6-1 on the season.
South Plainfield’s Kate McLaughlin led all scorers with 18 points. McLaughlin had eight of her 18 points in the fourth quarter.
South Plainfield trailed Monroe heading into the final quarter, but an 18-point fourth quarter enabled the Tigers to take control of the game.
In addition to McLaughlin’s 18 points, South Plainfield’s Sarah Cargill chipped in with 12 points in a winning effort. Erica Junquet led Monroe with 12 points. The victory improves South Plainfield's record to 3-3 on the season. South Plainfield next plays Saturday away in East Brunswick.
