On Monday, September 4, 2017, South Plainfield will again, host one of the most well attended and traditional Labor Day Parade and festivities in the country. The South Plainfield Public Celebrations Committee is once again busy working to make this year's Labor Day Parade, Festivities and Fireworks Display better then ever. The Parade lineup begins by the Police Athletic League (PAL) on Maple Avenue and concludes at the South Plainfield Middle School on Plainfield Avenue. Trophies will be awarded by the Parade Judges.
This year's theme will be "Happy 60th Birthday to our Labor Day Parade". The parade will highlight bands, floats, cast of characters, volunteer and athletic organizations, non-profit organizations, military representatives as well as community and political leaders.
The Public Celebrations Committee is seeking food vendors, non-profit organizations and for profit vendors for our festivities held at the Middle School after the parade ends as well as sponsors for the parade, for more information click the link
The Public Celebrations Committee is seeking FIREWORKS PROPOSALS with details explaining the type of fireworks that will be offered, the type of colors and shells that will be used in the display, the length of time for the display, the details for set up costs in the event of rain and the total cost of the entire event. Fireworks are stationed next to the South Plainfield Rescue Squad.
The Public Celebrations Committee is seeking volunteer Parade Marshals that will follow the line of the parade to insure all rules and regulations are followed. Submission of the on-line applications for vendors and for parade participation is required by August 18, 2017. Forms can be found on the Borough website under Public Celebrations. The Public Celebrations Committee is seeking organization to participate by decorating floats for entry into the parade.
Jersey's Rock Band "Amp'd" will entertain during the Festivities at the Middle School from 12-3 pm and again in Spring Lake Park in the Gazebo from 6-8 pm.
Grand Marshall nominations will be accepted from July 7, through August 4, 2017. The criteria for Grand Marshal represents those who have volunteered in service organizations or volunteered in various aspects to help those in South Plainfield. Send all nominations in the form of a letter explaining the efforts of the person(s) you are nominating and what they have done to give back to the South Plainfield Community and in what area they have volunteered. Please give specific details as to what their volunteerism has been and the approximate dates. The nominator must sign the letter with their name and phone number along with the phone number of the person(s) who you are nominating.
