SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Lady Tigers’ approach to the 2016 season is much the same as years past. Vie for the White Division title, vie for the County Championship title, make a run in the States and win 20+ games. The Tigers are poised to do just that in 2016, but they will need to do it with a slightly revamped offense.

The Tigers graduated Caroline Ratti and Holly DeLair in 2015. The two combined for 15 HRs, 74 RBIs and 68 runs scored. Ratti was considered by many to be the biggest offensive threat in Middlesex County batting .534 and having over 40 runs scored and over 40 RBIs. The Tigers are expected to shift catcher Camryn Schaeffer into the number three hole, replacing Ratti, and hope to get more production out of centerfield speedster Caity Hughes in the leadoff spot. In addition to Schaffer and C. Hughes the Tigers are looking for big offensive output from Meghan Hughes .400, Katherine Vill .349, Naomi Nieves .324, and Jennifer Grasso .320.

“Our goal is to compete for the top spot of the White Division in the GMC and to make a run in the State and County tournaments,” said South Plainfield Head Coach Don Panzarella. “I feel this team has a great mix of players for this team to be successful and meet all our goals.”

Junior Kat Vill will once again be the Tiger’s ace. She won 23 games last season with a 2.01 era, showing no signs of the dreaded sophomore slump. She is expected to be one of the top hurlers in Middlesex County.

Despite losing Ratti, DeLair and senior Gina Tartza the Tigers head into 2016 with a lot of game experience. The Tigers will be returning six starting position players. Meghan Hughes who will be anchoring shortstop for her fourth season is co-captains with senior first baseman Naomi Nieves.
