Several South Plainfield Middle School students participated in the Central Jersey Music Educators’ Association Region II Intermediate Band and Orchestra Auditions on January 27, 2018 at Community Middle School in Plainsboro, New Jersey. There were approximately 875 band and orchestra students from Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties. The students had to learn a solo, memorize scales, and perform some sight reading. The students were competing for an opportunity to perform with the Region II Concert Band, or Orchestra. Additionally, there is a percussion ensemble to ensure that percussion students have an equitable opportunity to perform. The Region groups rehearse in various places throughout central New Jersey to prepare for their upcoming concerts.
This year, three South Plainfield students were selected for the CJMEA Region II Symphonic Band. The students who were accepted were: Kathryn Lenau on horn, Jessica Saravia on percussion, and Thomas O’Brien on bass clarinet.
The concert for the band will be on Sunday, March 4 at Bridgewater Middle School. Brian Woodward, one of the band directors at Community Middle School in Plainsboro, will be the conductor of the Symphonic Band.
Mr. Veiss and the middle school community are very proud of the accomplishments of all the students who auditioned!
