Plainsboro, NJ-Several South Plainfield Middle School students participated in the Central Jersey Music Educators’ Association Region II Intermediate Band, Orchestra and Chorus Auditions on February 4, 2017 at Community Middle School in Plainsboro, New Jersey.  There were approximately 850 band and orchestra students and 250 chorus students from Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties.  The students had to learn a solo, memorize scales, and perform some sight reading.  The students were competing for an opportunity to perform with the Region II Concert Band, Chorus, or Orchestra.  Additionally, there is a percussion ensemble to ensure that percussion students have an equitable opportunity to perform.  The Region groups rehearse in various places throughout central New Jersey to prepare for their upcoming concerts.

This year, 15 South Plainfield students were selected for these ensembles.  Joshua Roesch was accepted into the Symphonic Band on tuba, Amanda Senatore was accepted into the Percussion Ensemble, and Lucy Flannery was accepted into the String Orchestra on bass.   The following students were also accepted into the Region Chorus: Sarai Adams, Gillian DeLaCruz, Alyssa Rivera, Rachel Ann Fallet, Madison Pascale, Kaitlyn Baskiewicz, Mary O’Dell, Derek Robertson, Jack Anderson, Olivia Quinn, Jelinda Montes, and Sarah Hous

The concert for the band will be on Sunday, March 5 at Bridgewater Middle School. The Orchestra concert will be Saturday, March 4 in Basking Ridge and the Percussion Ensemble and Chorus concert will be Sunday, March 12 at Monroe Township High School in Monroe.

All the music teachers and the middle school community are very proud of the accomplishments of all the students who auditioned!
