SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield Police announced the arrest of 12 individuals related to a riot back in July. On July 8, 2015, the South Plainfield Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Fox Place on the report of a large fight in the roadway involving approximately 13 individuals. 

When police officers’ arrived at the scene most of the actors had fled, however in speaking with several witnesses, it was discovered that two or three vehicles had stopped on Fox Place at which time the group had exited their vehicles.  The individuals then began to physically fight using aluminum pipes and rakes. 

Police conducted a near two month investigation which led to the arrest of 12 individuals. The individuals arrested, and their corresponding charges, are as follows:

John Castaneda, South Plainfield, age 18, charged with Riot.
Marcus Garcia, South Plainfield, age 21, charged with riot and simple assault.
Hector Lopez, South Plainfield, age 52, charged with riot and simple assault
Joel Lopez, South Plainfield, age 18, charged with riot and simple assault.
Jose Lopez, Middlesex, age 25, charged with riot and possession of a weapon
Jose Lopez, Middlesex, age 50, charged with riot and possession of a weapon
Kevin Lopez, Garwood, age 20, charged with riot and simple assault.
Miguel Mallqui, Green Brook, age 20, charged with riot and simple assault
Kenny Neto, South Plainfield, age 19, charged with riot and simple assault
Nicholas Petrozelli, Dunellen, age 19, charged with riot and simple assault
Michael Reim, South Plainfield, age 19 charged with riot and simple assault
John Restrepo, South Plainfield, age 19, charged with riot, simple assault and Possession of a weapon.

All defendants have been released and are awaiting court. Note: These charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
