SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Police have arrested Joseph Carreiro, 65, of Clark, NJ for allegedly attempting to promote obscene materials and debauch the morals of a 14-year-old girl for the purpose of a sexual encounter.
On Wednesday, March 13, a South Plainfield detective posed as a 14-year-old girl and answered an online ad soliciting sex posted by Joseph Carreiro. An email was received, and a conversation took place through email, between the undercover detective and Carreiro over the next few days. The detective alleges that Carreiro, believing he was emailing a 14-year-old, girl, had sexually explicit conversations that lead to attempting to set up a meeting.
Joseph Carreiro was arrested at his home in Clark by South Plainfield detectives where he was charged with Criminal Attempt and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He is currently at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a bail detention hearing.
The case will be prosecuted by the Division of Criminal Justice.
Charges are mere accusations and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
