SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Police Department, with support from the South Plainfield Public Library, will hold an Emergency Services Show on Saturday, Aug. 4 (weather permitting) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Veteran’s Park, which is located behind the senior center.

“This is the first year we are doing this and the goal is to hold a day where our community can come out and see all the different equipment and learn more about who were are and what we are all about,” said event organizer and South Plainfield Police Officer Joe Indano.

The free family-friendly event is open to the public and will feature hands-on displays and live demonstrations as well as local, county, state, and federal service vehicles, and as well as helicopter landings and a special appearance from Smokey the Bear. From 10 to 11 a.m., there will be a hands-on demonstration provided by Approved Fire Protection and at 11 a.m., a New Jersey Army National Guard helicopter is scheduled to arrive with an Atlantic Health System helicopter touching down around 12-12:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, there will also be refreshments and food trucks selling on site and representatives from the South Plainfield Public Library will be on hand with giveaways and offering children the opportunity to decorate police, fire, and EMS badges and make a helicopter craft.

“I teamed up with the South Plainfield Police Department for this program so the kids can meet our departments and officers and see what they all do,” said Library Assistant Jailene Betancourt. “What better way to meet all departments at once, learn what they do, see live demonstrations, and, at the same time be able to eat, and do a craft. It's going to be a great family event.”

Indano agrees. “This is a great day for the kids. They can come out play with the lights and sirens, and meet some of the awesome men and women from around the state who serve their communities,” he said, adding, “Best of all, they can see some helicopters land and you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy that.”
