SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield Police Officer Lloyd McNelly along with Officers Parada and Alvarez have been credited with saving a young woman from a possible suicide attempt. The harrowing event took place back on September 20th on the Lakeview Avenue Overpass.

According to the police on September 20th, South Plainfield Police Officer Ken Parada observed a young female standing on the opposite side of the protective fence on the Lakeview Overpass. Officers McNelly and Alvarez responded to assist. The girl on the overpass was crying and distraught threatening to jump onto the active railroad tracks below. Officer Alvarez engaged her in conversation as Officer McNelly walked out to her.

Officer McNelly was able to carry the young woman to safety. She was then provided with medical treatment and offered further assistance and counseling through Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
