SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield roads were at a standstill this evening as a railroad train blocked both the Clinton Avenue Extension railroad crossing and the New Brunswick Avenue railroad crossing. The rail blockage tied up traffic all throughout the Borough.

The Borough of South Plainfield issued two Nixle Alerts just before 6:30pm warning residents and area travelers of the tie-up. The second Nixle alert announced the Clinton Avenue Extension would be blocked for hours. The intersection of Sampton Avenue and Clinton Ave Extension was blocked with barriers and caution tape. The New Brunswick Avenue rail crossing is now open. Authorities have not announced a reason for the rail blockage.
