SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – A new electronic sign was installed last week in front of the South Plainfield Senior Center. The sign, according to the center’s director Tree Olano, will be updated weekly to provide current and prospective members with information on weekly and special events.
“The new sign will allow us to post important information about all of our wonderful trip and programs,” said Olano. “The community will be able to stay informed about the fun and exciting things going on here.”
The 3-foot by 8-foot single-sided electronic sign was installed Sept. 13 into the fixture that previously held the center’s manual readerboard. It features a large digital display with red lettering. Center staff will be able to regularly update the information posted on the sign via a tablet or cellphone.
“The seniors are so excited to see the new sign. They love that it lists our programs and trips and that it is much easier to read,” said Olano. “In a short time, it has already brought people in.”
According to Councilwoman Christine Faustini, the borough’s recreation liaison, the new senior center sign was on the South Plainfield Senior Citizen Committee’s to do list. “I am pleased that we have been able to bring this technology to our senior center,” said Faustini. “The response has been positive so far. The seniors find the sign very easy to read and love being reminded about important upcoming events.”
Olano added, “We have been waiting a few years and I’m thrilled with the results. Thank you to the borough and everyone who helped make this possible.”
