SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Members of the South Plainfield High School Tiger Tech Team, along with Lead Advisor Lisa Tenenbaum, spent most of Dec. 12 attending a series of workshops at the FIRST Comcast Boot Camp in Philadelphia, PA. The workshops are designed to prepare teams for the upcoming six-week, 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition build season, which will kick off on Jan. 9.
Workshops presented by Comcast NBC Universal, a major sponsor for some (40) FIRST teams and Lansdale Catholic Robotics Team #272, included “Make Your Team Stand Out Through Social Media,” Mechanical Engineering,” “Programming for Rookies,” “Business Planning’” and “Creating Awesome.”
In addition to the workshops, the students had the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing as well as try authentic Philly Cheesesteak from Jim’s Steaks” along the iconic South Street. A highlight of the trip was a race to the top of the 72 steps leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The steps are famous as the "Rocky Steps" as a result of the triple-Oscar-winning film Rocky and its five sequels. The bronze status of the movie’s main character Rocky Balboa stands outside the museum at the base of the steps and is a symbol of an underdog’s accomplishment through tough times for the city of Philadelphia and for Tiger Tech Team members. Additionally, members of the South Plainfield High School robotics team did not leave Philadelphia without trying an authentic Philly Cheesesteak from Jim’s Steaks” along the iconic South Street.
