South Plainfield Tigers Rout Perth Amboy 11-0

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The South Plainfield Girls Softball Team pounded out nine extra base hits, and Katherine Vill threw four scoreless innings, to go on to defeat Perth Amboy 11-0 yesterday in South Plainfield.  Caroline Ratti, Shannon Hughes and Caity Hughes led South Plainfield’s offensive juggernaut, which banged out 13 hits over just four innings.

South Plainfield would get on the board in the first inning scoring twice on doubles by Caroline Ratti, Haley Hlavka and Shannon Hughes.  The Tigers Naomi Nieves led off the second inning with a single, and came home on Ratti’s two run homerun to left-centerfield.  Shortstop Meghan Hughes doubled, and scored on Holly DeLair’s double down the third baseline.

In the third inning South Plainfield’s Caity Hughes would launch a triple to score two more runs to increase South Plainfield’s lead to 7-0.  South Plainfield Coach Don Panzarella had this to say about the game “Kat Vill pitched great, we played great defense, but we have been pressing at the plate.  Today we hit the ball and played like Tigers.”

South Plainfield would score four more runs in the fourth inning highlighted by Shannon Hughes two run homerun blast which caromed off the trees in leftfield.

The victory improves South Plainfield’s record to 5-1 on the season, and drops Perth Amboy to 0-2.  The Tigers play away on April 14, 2014 in Monroe.
