South Plainfield Wrestling Captures Morris Knolls Crown for 9th Straight Year

MORRIS KNOLLS, NJ – The South Tigers won the team title in the Morris Knolls tournament for the 9th straight year racking up a team total 229 points.  Montville placed second with 173 points and Watchung Hills placed third with 152.5 points.

South Plainfield had five individual winners in the tournament.  They were Joey Heilmann at 106lbs, Jake Giordano at 113lbs, Joe Sacco at 132lbs, CJ Maszczak at 170lbs, and Zach DelVecchio at 220lbs.

“It was a nice start to the season,” said South Plainfield wrestling head coach Kevin McCann. “I saw some real nice wrestling from our young freshman and our veterans. We need to keep improving to accomplish our goal of a group title.”

McCann was right. Freshman Sacco and DelVecchio didn’t disappoint both winning in impressive fashion.

The Tigers had a number of second place finishers in the tournaments. They are: Ryan Duhamel at 120lbs, Kyle Bythell at 138lbs, Ben Lundy at 182lbs and Ryan Marston at 195lbs. South Plainfield’s Jeff Plungis placed 3rd at 145lbs and both Jacob Painton  at 126lbs and Nick Difrancesco  at 160lbs finished the day placing 4th.
