South Plainfield’s Vill Strikes Out 10 in 6-0 Shutout of Roselle Park

ROSELLE PARK, NJ – South Plainfield freshman Katherine Vill allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters en route to a 6-0 victory over Roselle Park. 

The Tigers jumped out to a two-run first inning lead when senior Shannon Hughes doubled in Caroline Ratti and Haley Hlavka. In the second inning, with one out, Kaitlyn Hughes walked, Caity Hughes tripled to right to score Kaitlyn Hughes, Holly DeLair doubled to score Hughes and Ratti singled to score DeLair, and the ball was missed played, so Ratti scored to make the score 6-0.

The victory improves Vill’s record to 7-2 on the season, and the Tigers improve their record to 8-2 on the season.  South Plainfield plays Tuesday at home against Monroe.

Adele DeLeeuw Scholarships Awarded to Area Students

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Four former South Plainfield high school students received a total of $9,325 in scholarships from the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund at a dinner held Tuesday, June 12th, at the Spain Inn in Piscataway.  The scholarships are financed by a bequest from Adele DeLeeuw, longtime Plainfield resident, author of 75 books, journalist and arts activist.
