SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Looking for upscale food in a casual environment? Look no further, Southside Clam Bar & Restaurant officially opened their doors this weekend offering an array of specialty dishes and serving half price alcoholic drinks on Saturday, September 09, 2017.  Mayor Anesh was on hand, along with Council President Derryck White, Councilwoman Christine Faustini, and Councilmen Jon, Dean, Joe Wolak, Gary Vesce  and Business Administrator/CFO Glenn Cullen to perform the official ribbon cutting and wish them the best of luck.

“Southside Clam Bar is a welcomed change to an old location. Southside owner and South Plainfield native Alexis Broehl was thrilled to opening something different in her hometown. “I am very excited to be here and appreciate the warm welcome from residents and people from the neighboring towns,” said Broehl. “We are already getting bookings for the holidays, and private parties.”

Councilman Jon Dean also attended the Grand Opening and stated he was glad to see what was once an empty building turned into a fine restaurant for South Plainfield. “It is also great to see a lot of South Plainfield residents working there as well,” said Dean.

The bar was packed with well wishers and the tables were filled with a mix of families, friends, young and old. Surely the atmosphere helps attract a crowd, with a chic bar area, complemented by experienced bartenders, waitresses and Chef Michael Huber preparing a host of specialties.

Southside boasts a raw bar along with an extensive seafood menu that includes all fresh, never frozen items.  “The seafood is delivered fresh during the week,” Broehl said, noting that signature dishes include lobster, seafood fra diavolo, seafood salad, shrimp scampi, and sole francaise

“The Southside Clam Bar and Restaurant is a delightfully refreshing new restaurant that has something on the menu for everyone,” said Councilman Gary Vesce. “I wish them great success.”

Other items on the menu include a variety of pasta dishes as well as a selection of chicken, veal, pork and steak entrees. The children’s menu includes pizza, pasta, and chicken fingers.

“We are very family-oriented and offer a casual atmosphere and want people to feel comfortable coming straight from work or with their kids,” said Broehl. “In addition to our extensive menu, we offer daily dinner specials, as well as create-your-own-brick oven pizza.”

According to Broehl, one of the things that set Southside apart is that all dishes can be specialized, with substitutions and special requests are welcome. Broehl was thrilled with the turn out for the grand opening. “We were packed all night, I am so happy and humbled by the turn out,” said Broehl. “I really appreciate the support from Mayor Anesh, council members, and our customers. We have put a lot of work into creating this restaurant and I’d love nothing more than to have a packed house every night. We are just getting started; the best is yet to come!”

Mayor Anesh echoed all the comments and well wishes, “the food is top notch with an excellent staff,” said Anesh. “I have no doubt Southside Clam Bar and Restaurant will be very successful – Bon Appétit!”
