SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – In an evening full of joy and emotion, the South Plainfield High School Graduating Class of 2015 flung their caps to the sky as the much heralded and talented group takes their next step into the future.
“Tomorrow is a new day in a world filled with opportunities, said South Plainfield Student Council President Kelley O’Brien. “So go and find yourself, do big things, a bunch of small things and be happy with yourself.”
South Plainfield Principal Dr. James Pedersen described the 2015 South Plainfield Graduating Class as “the best and brightest in the years I have been principal,” said Pedersen.
“Through seemingly unending, exhausting, school work we have shown are work ethic and mental ability, two characteristics that are critical for life’s success” said South Plainfield Valedictorian Matthew Belanger.
“Twenty five years ago, like you I was about to receive my diploma,” said South Plainfield Mayor Matthew P. Anesh. Shortly, you, the Class of 2015 will begin to transition into the next phase of your journey.”
Anesh left the Class of 2015 with three pieces of advice. Anesh encouraged the students to first find their passion in life, second to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and third to strive to be the nicest person you know.
In addition to being a night of celebration, it also became an emotional night of remembrance as members of the graduating class and members of the faculty remembered the late Sarmad Rizvi. Rizvi died just prior to the start of his senior year. In a poignant and emotional ending to the “roll call of graduates,” Rizvi’s mother and sister received Sarmad’s diploma. There was barely a dry eye in attendance as the Rizvi’s received the diploma on behalf of their beloved son and brother.
The Class of 2015 had approximately 270 graduates. Matthew Belanger was the Valedictorian, Brandon Rickert was Salutatorian. “Aim high for the future,” said South Plainfield Class President Zaire Cone. Anyone in attendance knows the future for the Class of 2015 is not just high, but limitless.
