NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – The South Plainfield Lady Tigers captured the first Central Jersey Group II Sectional Title in school history in dramatic fashion, by roaring back from 5thplace after two games and defeating the field of eight with a combined series pin count of 2,409 pins. The Lady Tigers bested Ewing by just one pin.
South Plainfield senior Rebecca Armand helped catapult the Tigers in the last frame rolling a 238 game high to lead the Tigers. “My team came together at the perfect time, especially after being so far down in pins going into the third game,” said Armand. “I was able to bowl well along with my teammates, and we all made clutch shots in order to win by one pin.”
Armand was right. The Tigers didn’t have a pin to spare in capturing the title. The Tigers received championship performances up in down the lineup with Melissa Novak rolling 40 pins higher than her season average in the final two games, rolling a 183 in the second game and 184 in the third game. Aaliyah King rolled 18 pins higher at 134 in the third game, Lanasia Neal rolled an impressive 548 combined series and Emily Sukenik rolled a solid 384 combined series and Armand finished her third game with seven consecutive strikes leaving the vanquished competition stunned.
“It was just an awesome way to go into the tournament of champions, said Armand. “It is the first time in South Plainfield history that the girls’ bowling team won the Sectionals and I am so proud to be a part of it.”
The Lady Tigers will be competing in the Tournament of Champions at Carolier on Friday 2/13/15. Rebecca Armand also qualified 8th to move on to the State Individual Competition on Wednesday 2/18/15.
