COLONIA -- Makayla Sosa and Catherine DeLair both scored in the top of the seventh inning to propel the South Plainfield High School varsity softball team to a 5-3 win over Colonia in a Greater Middlesex Conference -- White Division clash.

DeLair laid down a two-out bunt and scored on an RBI-triple to right centerfield by Sosa, who later scored on a wild pitch.

Sosa added a double and finished 2-for-3 on the day with that one RBI and two runs scored. Now a senior, Sosa has upped her game from the plate. She’s batting .483, which is good for second on the team, with 14 hits including three triples and three doubles to go along with 13 RBI, 12 runs, and 10 walks.

Both teams plated one run each in the fourth inning as well. Jennifer Flasser added the other RBI for the Tigers while Julia Santos, who finished 2-for-4, drove in the final run for the Patriots.

From the circle, Jillian Holoboski earned the win tossing all seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned), six hits, and two walks, while striking out three. She had had a hit and scored a run at the plate.
