SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Tigers’ senior right-hander Kyle Moroney struck out eight batters and scattered five hits over seven innings to record a 5-0 complete game shutout over Colonia yesterday.
Moroney was mired in a tight pitching duel with the score knotted at 0-0 after five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, South Plainfield junior Kyle Dickerson started things off with an infield single. Senior Justin Marks was hit by a pitch, and after an intentional walk to load the bases, junior Chris Graves walked, forcing in what would turn out to be the winning run. Senior Robert Eggert followed Graves with an infield single, scoring the Tigers’ second run of the inning.
The next three runs would all be knocked in by the Polizzano brothers, Nick and Mike. Sophomore Nick Polizzano pushed across the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly, and with two outs, senior Mike Polizzano knocked in the fourth and fifth runs of the inning with a line-drive single to center.
The Tigers’ win brings their record to 1-0 for the season. The team will finish their home series today when it plays away at Colonia.
