The Suburban Woman’s Club has had to cancel all of its fundraising activities so far this year, however, club members have not stood by idly. The Boyle Memorial Foundation, for example, raised $2,000 to purchase gift cards to Shop Rite, as well as paper products and other necessities. These were distributed to needy families in South Plainfield.
To date, members created 70 masks using material supplied by JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores. These masks were donated to hospital workers in our state. Another member, while spending the winter in Florida, sewed and donated 40 masks for residents at Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Center in Titusville, Florida. This is a residence for those with autism.
Generous cash contributions and food donations were made to students in crisis, several local and church food banks and to a New Jersey hospital Covid-19 fund. A number of members posted thank you notes on the ShopRite website to show gratitude to essential workers for keeping our country moving. ShopRite donates one dollar for every message left on its Thank You message board to food banks.
The club hopes to hold meetings again once the state allows it. Over its sixty-eight-year history, this club has focused on improving the lives of the area’s women and children and continues to dedicate much of its fundraising in support of organizations which provide help to these two groups. It’s a great club and, if you are interested in joining, here is how you can become a member.
Any woman of South Plainfield or the surrounding area is very welcome to become a member. Membership dues are $35 per year and meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Oak Tree Avenue, South Plainfield.
