To paraphrase Jane Austen, it is a truth universally acknowledged that the choirs under the direction of Dr. Donna Kregler are absolutely wonderful.  Dr. Kregler, Director of our town’s High School Choral Activities, led the Chamber Chorus at the Suburban Woman’s Club December 5th meeting and delighted the audience.

Club members felt very fortunate to have the beautiful voices conducted con brio and con amore by Dr. Kregler entertain them with favorite holiday songs.  One song in particular, Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, had twists and turns and surprise additions that made it fun and new.  The holiday favorites, including two celebrating Hanukkah, brought back joyful memories of holidays past.  As the students left, Club members gave them small packages with delicious chocolates and candies as a thank you for their great performance.

The Club’s December meeting does not only ring in the holidays but is a culmination of  the busy fall season.  President Jane Rundella, who called the meeting to order, held a discussion regarding the upcoming Theater Party to be held on Sunday, December 15th at the Historic Edison Valley Playhouse at 2:00 PM.  Tickets for “A Christmas Carol” can be purchased by emailing Lisa Cotone-Smith at  Proceeds from the Club’s fundraisers support its scholarship fund as well as local charities.

Updates on important legislation were given by Legislative Chair Kathy Wozniak who keeps her focus on issues which affect members and all New Jersey residents.  For example, Wozniak wrote to President Trump pointing out that Medicare cannot negotiate drug prices as Medicaid can.  As a result, some medicines which seniors need for specific conditions are very pricey.  Wozniak told members she received a reply from the president saying that his administration is working on lowering drug prices.

Debbie Boyle, Education Chair, discussed the Club’s spelling bee which will be held on February 5th and the winners will move on to the NJSFWC College District competition.  Boyle also reminded members that there will be a fundraiser for the Club at Mr. Subs the afternoon of December 10th and urged members to ask family and friends to participate.  The Club receives a percentage of the income that Mr. Subs makes from the hours of 4:00 pm. to 8:00 pm.
