SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Tabernacle Church of South Plainfield helped make the holidays a little bit brighter for Margaret and Mary ‘Katie’ Simmonds. The family, which has been going through difficult times over the past few months, was able to enjoy a special holiday meal on Christmas Eve thanks to the church.
“We know how important family is and wanted to do whatever it took for them to keep their family tradition during the holidays, especially with everything they have been through in the past few months,” said Sherri Jones, director of marketing for Tabernacle.
Tabernacle donated the funds to purchase the food, which Renee Eggert, a close friend of the family, order from ShopRite and personally delivered. Items included baked ziti, meatballs, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, grilled vegetables and Italian pastries.
“The Christmas dinner was amazing,” said Katie. “Everyone got to eat and my family was able to be together on the holidays, which is what is important. “I have to greatly thank them for their gift of this amazing dinner,” said Katie, adding special thanks to Eggert for taking the time to order and deliver the meal. “It was so sweet of her.”
Jones added, “ “We are so glad to be part of the South Plainfield community, to see how we band together to help one another in times of need is simply amazing.”
